Patrick Kunka is a drummer, composer and bandleader from the UK currently based in Manhattan, New York City.
Patrick began learning drums at the age of 8, and became interested in jazz as a teenager, whilst playing in various groups and projects in his hometown of Aberdeen, Scotland.

After auditioning for and being awarded a scholarship at the age of 18, Patrick attended Boston’s Berklee College of Music from 2006-2009, and graduated Summa Cum Laude (with highest honors) having gained several performance/achievement awards and the highest possible instrumental ratings given by the college.
In 2009, Patrick was accepted with scholarship for graduate study in Jazz Performance at Boston’s prestigious New England Conservatory, which he graduated from in 2011 with Academic Honors. While at NEC, Patrick held the drum-chair in the NEC Jazz Orchestra for two consecutive years.
Artists that Patrick has performed and collaborated with include Carla Bley, Steve Swallow, George Garzone, Gunther Schuller, Bob Brookmeyer, Don Byron, Tiger Okoshi, Jason Palmer, and others.

When at home, Patrick continues to work with some of Scotland’s top jazz musicians, performing at high-profile venues and festivals across the UK and Europe. Patrick has represented both Berklee College of Music and New England Conservatory internationally and currently serves as an international ambassador for the Aberdeen International Youth Festival.
Patrick has studied privately with Miguel Zenon, Terri-Lyne Carrington, George Garzone, Jon Hazilla, Jerry Bergonzi, and Gene Jackson and has partaken in residencies and masterclasses with Dave Holland, Jason Moran, Danilo Perez, Steve Davis, and Joe Lovano.
Patrick teaches privately and has taught clinics and masterclasses at the Panama Jazz Fesitval (Panama), Nancy Jazz Pulsations (France), the London Jazz Festival (UK), and Aberdeen International Youth Festival (UK).
